It did look for a while that our Aston Cantlow walk was fated to be cancelled again by rain, but despite the unpromising weather forecast, as it wasn’t actually raining at 10.00am we set off, waterproofs at the ready. Happily, we made the right decision as we completed the vast majority of the walk in the dry. There were a couple of showers but there was also some sunshine. The jackets were put on and then taken off and then put on again and then …..
The route took us out of the village and across the River Alne to join The Monarch’s Way. This lead us through fields and alongside a racing stables gallop, though the horses were not galloping this morning. We continued to follow the Monarch’s Way along the lanes until we left it to head across country to Great Alne. We then came back over the river through a holiday caravan park and into Aston Cantlow via the church yard. A very enjoyable morning with lovely countryside and good company.
