Short Walk for July

Gladys P organised July's short walk starting and finishing at the Bell at Tanworth in Arden. Our short walks are planned to avoid stiles and have places to rest if required. They are usually up to 2 miles and we walk at a relatively slow pace. We usually meet at 10:15 but due to the forecast high temperatures we met at the earlier time of 9:45. We set off past St Mary Magdalene's church down to the graveyard where 2 famous locals are remembered - Nick Drake a legendary singer/songwriter and Mike, Hailwood motorcycle and Formula 1 legend and his daughter who were killed when a pick-up truck tried to do an illegal U-turn over the central reservation of the nearby A 435. We continued along the path to the Children's farm and saw Alpacas, pigs, goats and sheep etc. The lake in the main area had completely dried out as well as the mud at the bottom. We had drinks at the Espresso Farm and then continued under the railway bridge and up the hill back to the Bell for lunch. Thanks to Gladys for organising such an enjoyable walk and lunch.
