The first challenge on our November walk was just getting to the start point! The M40, the best route, was completely closed and people had to find alternative routes – Satnavs to the rescue. Unfortunately, all the alternative routes were choked with traffic not using the motorway and not helped by the ever present road works. There were lots of phone calls, "I'm stuck in traffic here - where are you?" In the end most managed to make it and we started the walk just half an hour late. We did feel for two of our members who tried the motorway and spent the whole morning going nowhere, so very frustrating.
Once we started we enjoyed lovely weather and a delightful walk. The route was Walk 28, Offchurch -West, of the circular walks along the Millennium Way. The walk took us across fields, through lovely estate grounds, a little bit of woodland then through Newbold Comyn Park, where a few of our members just couldn't resist the zip-wire. It then followed alongside the River Leam before joining the tow path of the Grand Union canal. This took us back towards the start of the walk, just a few fields to cross and lunch awaited us. The walk was not strenuous and allowed us to enjoy the beautiful Autumn scenery as we walked and talked. My thanks go to Barbara for suggesting this lovely walk. Ursula I
